Poole school to undergo multimillion-pound revamp

A Dorset school has been given the go-ahead to undergo a multi-million pound refurbishment.

Education Secretary Michael Gove revealed earlier that 33 schools would be awarded funding as part of a sample project.

Ashdown Technology College, in Poole, is the only school in the county to make it on to the list of 33.

In July over 730 rebuilds were axed when the Building Schools for the Future scheme was scrapped.

Laura Dagnall, chairman of governors at Ashdown Technology College, in Canford Heath, welcomed the development.

"We now have a great opportunity to improve the buildings and the quality of education we deliver to our community."

In July the coalition government scrapped the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) scheme as part of its cost-cutting measures.
