Dorset council workers protest against cuts

About 150 public sector workers in Dorset have protested outside the County Hall in Dorchester against proposed budget cuts.

Council staff met councillors as they arrived for a meeting at 1000 GMT.

Following last month's government Spending Review, the county council must save £48.6m - or 17% of its budget - over the next three years.

It is planning to cut £7m from the social services and more than £1m from highways budgets.

Campaigners have previously presented a petition containing more than 2,000 signatures in protest at the cuts.

They are calling on the council to hold a public debate before they decide where to make the savings.
