Dog survives 150ft fall from cliff on Swanage coast

A dog had a lucky escape when it survived a 150ft (46m) cliff fall in Dorset.

The three-year-old whippet called Samba was discovered at Old Harry Rocks, near Swanage, just before 1500 GMT on Sunday by passers-by.

The dog, which was spotted on a small beach only accessible by water, had become lost on an afternoon walk,

It was rescued by the Swanage RNLI Inshore Lifeboat and reunited with its owner.

Maddy Davey, watch officer at Portland Coastguard said: "The dog had been lost during a walk that morning and was lucky to be alive following the fall from the cliff.

"We would like to remind dog owners that when walking dogs near the coast on cliff top paths to keep their dogs on a lead."

William Jensen, who found Samba and called the coastguards, said: "The RNLI were incredible in how quickly they responded to my call and arrived at the scene.

"We are lucky to have such an excellent service to keep our coastlines safe, especially given they are completely staffed by volunteers and run as a charity."
