Bournemouth hospital shuts six wards in virus outbreak

Six wards have been closed to new admissions at a Dorset hospital after an outbreak of the vomiting and diarrhoea bug Norovirus.

People have been banned from visiting patients in the affected wards at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital unless under "exceptional circumstances".

Visitors to any other parts of the hospital must first arrange it with the nurse in charge.

The NHS trust said it was reviewing the situation twice daily.

The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust added: "We take infection control very seriously and work extremely hard to prevent and control infection.

"Everyone in our hospitals accepts that controlling infection is their responsibility.

"In our fight against hospital infection there is strong and effective support from the very top of the organisation extending right across the trust to include clinical, domestic, catering and other staff."
