London 2012 music project seeks Dorset voices

The project will 'unify communities' along the Jurassic Coast, organisers say

A musical project that will result in a performance during the London 2012 Olympics is looking for singers.

The Coastal Voices project intends to find hundreds of people to take part in music workshops in Poole, Weymouth, West Dorset and in East Devon.

Twenty five people will be chosen to sing in London in July 2012.

Elspeth McBain from arts venue Lighthouse Poole said the project was inspired by the Games and the Jurassic coastline, and will show local talent.

She said: "The burgeoning strength of the choral community in this region seems unlike any other in the UK.

"We can offer choirs an international platform, as well as providing a body of new work created for the region of Poole and Dorset as a lasting Olympic legacy."

She said the project, part of the Cultural Olympiad and run by Lighthouse Poole and music producers Serious, was set up to "unify communities" along the coast of Dorset and Devon through "voice and place".

Choirs or individuals can apply and rehearsals begin in September.
