Weymouth school's King George film to show at festival

The Sadness of King George is a three-minute animated film

A short animated film by a group of young film-makers from Dorset is to be shown at a film festival.

The Sadness of King George was made by year five students at Weymouth's Beechcroft St Pauls Primary School.

The film tells the fictional story of how the monarch - who holidayed in Weymouth and helped establish its role as a resort - saves the 2012 Olympics.

The animation will be shown at the Co-operative Film Festival at Bradford's National Media Museum in October.

Project co-ordinator Alastair Nisbet, from arts group Dorchester Arts, said: "It's a huge feather in our cap to be selected for this festival.

"The children are thrilled that their work will be screened at such a prestigious national event."

He added that three more Weymouth and Portland schools will also make locally-themed films, and all will be screened at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy next summer, ahead of the venue hosting the sailing events for the London 2012 Olympics.
