Weymouth lifting bridge warning to drivers

Drivers have been ignoring signals warning them not to cross a lifting bridge, a council has said.
Weymouth and Portland Borough Council said it had handed CCTV footage to police showing several motorists racing past barriers at Weymouth town bridge.
The council said cars had been passing warning lights, some narrowly missing bridge operators and pedestrians.
The CCTV cameras installed on the bridge have number plate recognition technology.
Borough transport councillor Christine James said: "Drivers who break the rules will be identified by CCTV, which may result in a court summons, leading to a fine and possible confiscation of the vehicle."
