A Dorset council has said it is to investigate using its own land to provide affordable housing.

The Borough of Poole has approved proposals to build 100 affordable homes on council-owned sites over four years.

It said new housing was a "priority" but no sites had yet been identified.

The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), which provides funding for affordable housing, is inviting bids from registered home builders for the scheme.

Councillor Mike White said: "Delivering new affordable homes in an economic downturn is particularly challenging."

The council said it would receive little or no money from providing any land for the scheme.
