Fund launch after Weymouth fishing boat deaths

The search for Robert Prowse and another crew member was called off on Saturday

A memorial fund has been set up for the families of three fishermen who were lost off the coast of Dorset.

Whelking vessel Purbeck Isle sank off Portland Bill having been reported missing on Thursday.

Collection points have been set up around Weymouth harbour, where the boat was based.

A book of condolence was also opened at the council offices by the Mayor and Mayoress of Weymouth & Portland, Graham Winter and Mary Jordan-Winter.

The collection is being made by the Weymouth and Portland Licensed Boat Owners and Fishermen's Association (FPLBFA).

The association's secretary, Andy Alcock, said: "There is so much sadness and everyone wants to help the best way they can."

The body of the boat's skipper, 35-year-old David McFarlane, was discovered on Friday.

Searches for crew members Robert Prowse and Jack Craig were later called off.

The wreck was found on Saturday with its life-raft still on board.

The collection points for the memorial fund have been set up at the Rendezvous Night Club, the Royal Oak, the Ship Inn, the King's Arms and Weymouth Angling Centre.
