Harmonic Fields is inspired by Balinese wind chimes

A selection of Balinese wind chimes and traditional musical instruments has been suspended on posts over a mile of coastal path in Dorset.

Harmonic Fields is part of the London 2012 Festival and overlooks the Olympic sailing course in Weymouth Bay and Portland Harbour.

More than 500 instruments have been arranged by the French composer Pierre Sauvageot, to be played by the wind.

The director of the Cultural Olympiad said it was a festival highlight.

Ruth Mackenzie added that the installation provided a chance for people across the region to join in with the games and "be inspired by great talent".

Mr Sauvageot said: "The Dorset coast is a wonderful place to bring Harmonic Fields - it's rolling hills and wide seascape the perfect place for the audience to immerse themselves in the sounds of the instruments and the wind."

The access to the collection of wind-powered musical instruments at the disused Bowers Quarry on Portland is free and is open until 9 September.
