Dorset PCC election: Martyn Underhill reflects on election victory

Dorset's new Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) has pledged to "keep party politics out of policing".

A former Sussex police officer, Mr Underhill stood as an independent and won 51,930 votes, ahead of Conservative Nick King with 34,451 after second preferences were counted.

After his victory he spoke about appointing a new chief constable and working with political representatives from all parties.

The government set up the commissioner role in an effort to make police more accountable, with a single "figurehead" monitoring performance.
