A sailing centre set up at a London 2012 venue in memory of Olympian Andrew Simpson has been officially opened.

The Andrew Simpson Sailing Centre is based at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy in Dorset.

Andrew 'Bart' Simpson, from Sherborne, died aged 36, while training for the America's Cup in San Francisco Bay in May 2013.

The ribbon was cut by fellow sailors Sir Ben Ainslie, Iain Percy, Paul Goodison and Mr Simpson's children.

The centre will offer grass roots tuition through to advanced race coaching for all age groups.

Sir Ben said: "Today is a very poignant day, but also a really exciting one to be opening the Andrew Simpson Sailing Centre... It's fantastic to see what has been achieved in such a short space of time and I'm sure the great man would be very proud."
