Poole's storm-hit beaches get additional £1.2m funding

Work to repair beaches along Poole seafront damaged in winter storms has been extended.
Recycled sand will be pumped onto beaches between Shore Road towards Branksome to protect nearby homes in preparation for any future storms.
The council has been given £1.2m from the government for the work.
The funding is in addition to work at Shore Road beach, where £700,000 of repairs funded by DEFRA are already underway.
The sand is being pumped ashore 24 hours a day, seven days a week from a dredger connected to a pipeline.
During the works the promenade will remain open, with short sections of the beach closed when the sand is being pumped ashore.
Poole Borough Council said sand equivalent to 10 years' worth of erosion was lost from some beaches during the storms.
The works are expected to be completed by Christmas.
