Police officers will start flying drones over Dorset to help them gather evidence from crime scenes.

The craft, being trialled for six months starting on Friday, can also be used to take pictures of road crashes and help search for missing people.

The drones, which can fly at a maximum height of 400ft (121m), are equipped to send pictures and video to police.

The force currently has two radio-controlled aircraft and three trained pilots.

It said the craft would allow "officers to gain vital information, quickly and safely".

Devon and Cornwall police also began a six-month trial using drones on 2 November.
