Park residents rescued as caravans damaged by storm

Residents at a coastal holiday park were rescued as Storm Ciarán damaged caravans and flooded the site with seawater.

Police, ambulance, fire and coastguard services were called to Freshwater Beach Holiday Park and helped people trapped in their caravans after the tidal surge.

The Dorset coast was battered by strong winds and heavy rain throughout Thursday as Storm Ciarán swept through.

Storm Ciarán also caused a large section of cliff to collapse on to a beach.

Walkers were warned to avoid the area at West Bay in Dorset after the Jurassic Coast was battered by large waves on Thursday.

Posting on Facebook, Bridport Town Council said: "A new day and a new rockfall."

Hovis 'boy on the bike' returns to Dorset hill after 50 years

Carl Barlow returned to the iconic location aged 64

The original Hovis "boy on the bike" has returned to the scene of the famous advert 50 years after it was first broadcast.

Carl Barlow was 13 when he starred in the commercial, pushing a bike with a basket of bread up Gold Hill in Dorset.

The advert was once voted the most iconic of all time, and the cobbled Shaftesbury street went on to become a popular tourist destination.

Free Christmas parking not returning, BCP Council says

Free parking over the festive period will not be making a return this year because of financial challenges, a council has confirmed.

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council said reintroducing concessions in the area at Christmas would cost the authority more than £200,000 in lost income.

The policy was met with criticism when it was first announced last year.

Swanage wave barriers get splash of colour to form trail

Flood-prevention barriers at a seaside resort have been given a makeover to form an art trail and make them easier to see.

The grey blocks on Swanage seafront in Dorset were found to be hard for visually impaired people to spot.

To fix the problem, 70 panels have been painted with designs in vivid colours and fixed to the concrete blocks.
