Dorset: Dinosaur runners race along Jurassic coast for charity

Runners dressed in dinosaur costumes gathered on Saturday to raise money for a local charity.

The first-ever Chase the Dinosaur event invited people of all ages to don the costumes and run along the Jurassic coast at Weymouth beach.

The fun run was organised by non-profit We Are Weymouth, which supports businesses in the Dorset town.

Funds raised will go to the Will Mackaness Trust, which provides water sport opportunities to young people.

Dawn Rondeau-Irvine, We Are Weymouth's chief operations officer, said lots of people turned out to watch and take part in the fun run.

She said: "It was just an idea that came about a few months ago. Dinosaurs reflect what the Jurassic coast is all about."

She added that the Chase the Dinosaur event "will kick off our dinosaur season here in Weymouth, with the launch of the very first dinosaur beach run alongside a new interactive augmented reality (AI) dinosaur trail throughout the town".

First, second and third place runners received a medal

The adult race from the Pavilion end of Weymouth Beach to the stones at Greenhill and back was three miles (5km). There were shorter races for children to take part in.

First, second and third place finishers received a medal and some participants have been chosen to be chased at next year's event.
