A 393ft (120m) zip wire is being used to clear felled trees from a cliff face.

Onlookers gathered to watch the intricate operation at Canford Cliffs, Dorset, on Thursday and Friday.

Apex tree surgeons said the zip wire was needed because of a lack of access for heavy machinery and to prevent damage to beach huts below.

The firm said it was removing the trees from private land to protect the area from erosion.

"When the pine trees on the cliff face reach maturity, they become exposed to strong winds and often topple over, taking large sections of the cliff with them," it added.

Apex said 25 maritime pines were being taken away, with approval from Natural England.

The firm said it would replant and reseed the cliff face after the two-day operation.
