Bobby Burden Brewer restores neglected road signs to their former glory

A supermarket delivery driver has been restoring scruffy street signs that he spots on his rounds.

Bobby Burden Brewer, who is also an artist, has switched from painting canvasses to sprucing up signs near his home in north Dorset.

He began his unusual hobby in 2022 while living in north Devon, before moving to Dorset last year.

He hopes one day to walk from Lands End to John o' Groats, painting and restoring signs along the way.

Speaking to Radio Solent's Dorset Breakfast show, he said: "Travelling around Dorset, I see these signs that really need looking after - they need a fresh coat of paint to make them look nice again.

"I don't know whether they haven't got any money, but the councils don't do it, so I do it in my spare time."

Mr Burden Brewer paints the signs in his spare time and at his own expense

Mr Burden Brewer initially began litter picking and guerrilla gardening before turning his attention to cleaning road signs.

He says he has so far painted about 30 signs on his days off, all at his own expense.

"I'm passionate about things like streets and where we live," he said. "If no one is looking after things then I need to step in.

"As long as the weather's OK, I'll go out painting signs."

People on social media have urged Mr Burden Brewer to work his magic as far afield as Nottingham and Leicestershire.

Others have praised his efforts, calling him a "lovely person" and "one of the nicest guys on the planet".

Regarding the Lands End to John o' Groats challenge, he said: "It's never been done before and I would love to do it.

"Unfortunately, I'd still need to pay my bills so I'm still working it out, but it's certainly something I'd be well up for."
