The headliners for a rural town's first Pride event have been revealed.

Janice Robinson, best known for her hit song I'm A Dreamer, will be kicking off Sherborne Pride in Dorset on Sunday 7 July.

The former lead singer of Livin' Joy will be joined by British ska band, The Beat.

Organisers of the event said they hoped it would be a "celebration like no other" and a "vibrant, inclusive event to bring the community together".

The woman behind Sherborne Pride, Sadie Wilkins, previously told the BBC people were "crying out" for an event like this.

Other performers confirmed to appear include drag queen Vicki Vivacious, who gained fame on RuPaul's Drag Race UK, Pi the Mime, burlesque performer Dave the Bear and circus, aerial and pyro act Aurora Starr.

Ms Wilkins explained: "We want Sherborne Pride to be a beacon of love and acceptance in our community.

"It's about creating a world where everyone feels seen, heard, and loved. We invite everyone, LGBTQIA+ individuals and allies alike, to join us in celebrating love and diversity."

Sherborne Pride will be free to attend and will also include comedy and pop-up street performances.

The theme for the event is "love lives here".
