Hospital admits baby was handed to wrong mother

Poole Hospital said it apologised for the failings that resulted in the man's death

A hospital trust is investigating after a baby was handed to the wrong mother in a maternity unit.

University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Poole Hospital where the incident happened in September 2023, described it as "isolated".

The trust said the safety of parents and babies was its "highest priority" and it "deeply regretted" any distress caused.

It urged the mother to get in touch.

Caterpillar marathon team say they smashed record

The team completed the race in two hours, 57 minutes and 30 seconds

Runners who completed a marathon dressed as a caterpillar believe they have smashed the record for completing one in a six-person costume.

Team Phil completed the Manchester Marathon in two hours, 57 minutes and 30 seconds on Sunday.

The Dorset-based team has raised £8,100 for the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association.

They believe they have beaten the previous record by around 87 minutes.

Barge campaigners renew calls for its closure

The Home Office announced plans for the barge in April 2023

Campaigners said they were "stepping up" calls to shut down a barge housing migrants off the Dorset coast.

Stand Up To Racism Dorset is working with Portland Global Friendship Group and Care4Calais to launch a "people's inquiry" at the Houses of Parliament.

The group said it had been a year since the government announced plans to moor the Bibby Stockholm in Portland Port.

The Home Office said the barge was part of plans to reduce the use of expensive hotels to house asylum seekers.

Brain tumour documentary to be shown in cinemas

Red Herring charts Kit Vincent's family's journey following his diagnosis

A documentary telling the story of a filmmaker and his family, after he was was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour, is set for release in cinemas.

Bournemouth-born Kit Vincent was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour, aged 24, in 2023.

His documentary - Red Herring - charts his family's journey as they come to terms with his illness.

He said the film showed the family trying to deal with "one of life's most traumatic events".

Historical coin hoard found buried under floor

Robert and Becky Fooks found the coins under the floor of their new cottage

A buried hoard of coins dating to the 16th and 17th Centuries has been found during renovation work on a cottage.

The cache of more than 1,000 gold and silver coins was discovered under an earth floor at South Poorton, Dorset.

One of the property's new owners, Robert Fooks, was digging with a pickaxe by torchlight when he found the trove in a pottery bowl.

Auctioneers hope to sell the collection for between £15,000 and £30,000.
