The power went off to 966 homes in the Townsend area at about 01:20

Almost 1,000 homes were without power in Bournemouth after a fault in the early hours.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) said 51 postcodes in the BH7 and BH8 areas of Townsend were initially affected at about 01:20 BST.

It said power had since been restored to most homes, with the remaining 33 expected to be back on by midday.

The firm said its engineers reconnected supplies through a switching process while they repaired a transformer.
