Dale Farm eviction: 'Camp Constant' resident arrested

A man believed to be living at a protest camp at Dale Farm in Essex has been arrested on suspicion of breaching a court order.

The 47-year-old, from Thetford in Norfolk, was the subject of a warrant issued by Norwich magistrates for failure to comply with a community order, Essex Police said.

He was arrested by officers on routine patrol in Basildon and is in custody.

Police said the man is believed to be living temporarily at Camp Constant.

It was set up in September as a gesture of defiance and in support of travellers facing eviction from the site in a 10-year feud with Basildon Council.

Residents are asking for leave to appeal against last week's High Court decision to allow the council to clear 49 of 54 plots.
