Latest phase of Sadlers Farm roadworks on A13 to start

Drivers have been warned to expect further disruption as the latest phase of work at a busy road junction in Essex gets under way.

The £63m scheme at the Sadlers Farm roundabout on the A13 at Benfleet has been ongoing since the middle of 2010.

The south-bound A130 approaching the junction will be closed between 20:00 GMT and 05:00 GMT for the next five nights as gantry signs are installed.

The work by Essex County Council is expected to be completed in May.

'Enormous scheme'

When finished, the junction will have a new link road between the eastbound A13 and northbound A130, bypassing the Sadlers Farm roundabout.

Its numerous mini-roundabouts will also be removed and returned to a traditional single-file roundabout.

Work on the A13 Passenger Transport Corridor between Sadlers Farm and Tarpots has also started.

This will see the eastbound approach to Tarpots roundabout widened.

Conservative cabinet member for highways and transportation, Tracey Chapman said: "You have to expect disruption when you're doing roadworks on this level. It is an enormous scheme.

"I know people are frustrated with the road works, because they've been going on for a long while, but we're pushing on as fast as we can to get this ready."
