Harlow section of A414 set for £3.5m upgrade

About £3.5m is set to be spent on roads in an Essex town earmarked to be one of the government's enterprise zones.

Harlow Council has submitted a bid for the money to upgrade the A414 which runs through the town.

Last year it was named as a location for one of 13 new zones in England, which is expected to create up to 5,000 jobs in the town.

The South East Local Enterprise Partnership will meet at the end of March to decide on the funding.

Conservative council leader Andrew Johnson said it was "looking fairly positive" that the money would be allocated to them.

Improvements will be used to improve access to the A414, particularly in the Templefields area, where the enterprise zone is planned.

A 16-month programme to improve the road into the town from the M11 was completed in March 2011.
