Grays chemical plant in hydrochloric acid spill

  • Published

More than 60 tonnes of hydrochloric acid spilt out from a container at an Essex industrial estate.

The Titan Works plant in Hogg Lane, Grays, was evacuated at about 06:00 BST and nearby roads closed.

Firefighters wearing respirators have been working to disperse the gas cloud around the site.

Essex Police said nobody had been hurt and there was "no threat to the public". The roads surrounding the chemical plant have now re-opened.
