Barking, Havering and Redbridge hospital patient 'given wrong scan'

A radiographer who gave a patient a full head scan rather than an abdominal scan as required has been struck off.

A disciplinary panel of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) heard how Leonard Odu then deleted the CT scan from the machine's hard drive.

The incident happened at the Essex-based Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals Trust in 2012.

Mr Odu, who was based in Romford, east London, admitted the offences but did not attend the hearing.

The deletion of the records was discovered, the HCPC heard, when the trust began an investigation into how the patient had been exposed to "much greater" radiation "than intended".

Mr Odu, it emerged, had also asked a clerical officer to delete images from the trust's picture archive.

In striking Mr Odu from its register, the HCPC said the mistake was "serious" and "aggravated by deliberate dishonest attempts to conceal the initial errors".

Mr Odu worked for the trust for nearly eight years.
