A dog was painstakingly chiselled free by firefighters when its head was stuck in tree roots.

Remi, a chocolate labrador, found herself in trouble near One Tree Hill near Fobbing, Essex, at 10:50 GMT.

Firefighters carried equipment for more than a mile to reach her. It then took an hour to release her.

Geoff Wheal, from Essex Fire Service, said: "Remi was thankfully completely unharmed by the ordeal and happily posed for a photo with us."

He added: "We used chisels, saws and spreaders to free Remi from the tree."

"It was such a tight space, we had to chisel a bit at a time to make sure she was OK."
