A woman has been charged after two police officers were stabbed.

The officers were responding to reports of concern for someone's welfare in Springfield Road, Chelmsford, Essex, at about 23:00 GMT on Friday.

One of the men was stabbed in the leg and is recovering well, Essex Police said. The other is awaiting further treatment for a hand injury.

Humaira Faheem Akhtar, 50, from Chelmsford, has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm.

She has appeared before city magistrates and was remanded in custody ahead of a crown court appearance in January.
