Fenwick Colchester: Child, 5, critical after department store incident

A five-year-old boy is in a critical condition after sustaining a serious head injury at a department store.

Essex Police, the East of England Ambulance Service and an air ambulance were called to Fenwick on Colchester's High Street on Tuesday morning.

The boy received first aid at the scene before being taken to Colchester Hospital.

Fenwick said it was "shocked and saddened by the incident", which happened at about 11:30 BST.

The store remained closed on Wednesday.

Essex Police said specialist officers were supporting the boy's family while it investigated the incident, alongside Colchester Borough Council.Fenwick director Mia Fenwick said: "The Fenwick family, leadership and all of our colleagues are shocked and saddened by the incident which happened at our Colchester store.

"Our thoughts are with the child and their family during this difficult time.

"We are working closely with the local authorities to assist with the investigation and to understand how this happened."
