Canvey Island: Man dies after being found injured in car park

A murder investigation has begun after the death of a man who was found injured in a car park.

Essex Police said officers were called to the Iceland car park in Furtherwick Road on Canvey Island at about 01:45 GMT.

The force said it was believed the man, who was in his 40s, had been assaulted near to The Haystack pub a short time earlier.

Detectives said they believed it was a "targeted attack".

A cordon has been put in place in Furtherwick Road and Long Road.

Police warned of disruption to the centre of Canvey.

Detectives have appealed for anyone with information to contact officers.

Det Ch Insp Greg Wood said: "We believe those involved had been inside The Haystack pub earlier in the evening.

"I believe that someone who was in the pub or lives locally will know the identity of those responsible and I urge anyone to contact us or Crimestoppers with the information they have.

He said he expected a reduced cordon to be in place until Sunday.
