Shoebury: Car stuck in sea at Essex beach is rescued by RAC

Breakdown specialists have pulled a car from rising seawater at a beach in Essex.

Firefighters were called at 06:50 BST to reports of the black Toyota seen at Shoebury beach near Southend-on-Sea.

The fire service said it not attend, because there was no one in danger, and a patrol officer from the RAC was called instead.

An RAC spokesperson said the car was 2ft deep (61cm) in the water and was pulled 20ft (6m) up the beach slipway.

They said it was removed using a "heavy duty van" to "save any further damage and prevent contamination" and that it was later moved "by a specialist recovery vehicle".

Essex Police said it was not called to the scene.
