A man has been charged over an incident on a bridge that forced the part-closure of a major road.

Essex Police was called to reports of concerns for a person on a bridge close to junction 26 of the A12 at Stanway at about 11:15 BST on Tuesday.

A section of the road was closed in both directions and officers started to reopen it at 16:50.

The man, 54, from Colchester, is charged with wilful obstruction of a highway and causing a public nuisance.

He is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
