A teenager has appeared in court accused of plotting terrorist violence and possessing a semi-automatic gun.

Alfie Coleman, 19, of Great Notley, Essex, appeared briefly at Westminster Magistrates' Court.

He was arrested in an east London supermarket car park as part of an investigation into suspected right-wing terrorism.

When Mr Coleman was arrested on 29 September, he was allegedly in possession of a gun and ammunition.

The charges were not read out in the hearing and no pleas were indicated.

He was charged yesterday with 13 offences:

  • Preparing acts of terrorism

  • Possessing a prohibited firearm, namely a Makarov semi-automatic pistol

  • Possessing 200 rounds of 9mm ammunition

  • 10 counts of collecting information useful to a terrorist, including manuals on firearms, bomb-making, knife-fighting and "white resistance"

The defendant, who has long black hair and wore a grey tracksuit, spoke only to confirm his personal details.

He was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on 27 October.
