Chigwell collision: Boy, 14, injured after being hit by car

Essex Police appealed for witnesses after the boy was seriously injured on High Road in Chigwell town centre, opposite Brook Parade

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury and drug/drink-driving after a 14-year-old pedestrian was hit by a car.

The boy was taken to hospital after the collision on High Road in Chigwell just before 16:00 BST on Tuesday.

Essex Police appealed for witnesses who saw the collision or saw a grey Mercedes in the town centre area.

The men were released under investigation while inquiries continued.

The boy's injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

A 23-year-old man from Ilford, in east London, and a 24-year-old from Loughton, in Essex, were arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and driving while unfit through drink and drugs.

The 23-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of use of a motor vehicle without third party insurance.

A spokesperson for Essex Police said: "We are particularly interested in anyone who may have seen a Grey Mercedes E Class convertible driving in the area around that time.

"If you have any information, CCTV, dashcam or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us, external. Please quote reference number 717 of 17 October."
