Parts of Essex have been told to brace for heavy rain and possible flooding

A yellow weather warning for heavy rain has been issued for parts of Essex.

The warning, which runs from 18:00 BST until 10:00 on Wednesday, has been issued by the Met Office for Essex, specifically areas around Thurrock and Southend-on Sea.

It comes less than a week after parts of Norfolk and Suffolk were badly flooded during Storm Babet.

The Met Office has said rain is likely to be heavy at times and will cause flooding and disruption in some places.

Scattered showers will become more frequent and turn into a longer spell of rain through Tuesday evening before gradually clearing eastward during Wednesday morning, the Met Office said.

People are being warned of a potential for homes and businesses to flood, possible disruption to public transport and difficult driving conditions.
