Essex off-duty police officer arrested over pedestrian death

An off-duty police officer has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a pedestrian died following a car crash.
A man in his 70s suffered serious injuries in Prittlewell Chase, Southend, at 16:55 BST on Wednesday. He died in hospital the next day.
The driver, who works for Essex Police, is on bail, the force said.
The inquiry is ongoing and the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has been notified, police added.
