A120 lorry trailer discovery leads to immigration arrest

A man has been arrested on suspicion of facilitating unlawful entry into the UK after police found people in a lorry trailer in Essex.

Essex Police said it was called to a layby on the A120 near Coggeshall at about 09:50 GMT.

Six people received medical checks and were deemed safe and well, the force said.

Five were taken into police custody and another person was referred to social care.

A 55-year-old arrested on suspicion of the immigration offence was in custody for questioning.

Officers said they were initially called about concerns for people in the lorry trailer.

The East of England Ambulance Service said it sent one ambulance and three Hazardous Area Response Team vehicles to the scene.
