A man has been arrested after a police officer was attacked.
Essex Police said the incident happened after officers were called to concerns for the welfare of a man in Hull Grove, Harlow, at about 17:45 GMT on Friday.
The officer suffered a wound to her head as police "engaged" a man who was making threats with a knife.
Police said her injuries were not "life-threatening or life-changing". A man has been charged on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.
Both the officer and man were taken to hospital for treatment.
A second female officer was also assaulted, but did not require hospital treatment.
Ch Supt Stuart Hooper from Essex Police said: "Sustaining a serious injury whilst on duty is never, ever, 'just part of the job' of a police officer.
"Essex Police is a family force and we pull together at all times to help our colleagues and we will continue to do so in the coming days and weeks after this incident."
