A man has been charged with the attempted murder of two police officers.

Essex Police was called to Hull Grove, Harlow, on Friday over concerns for the welfare of a man.

While engaging with a man armed with knife, one officer sustained a wound to her head and a second was assaulted.

Declan Diedrick, 23, of Hull Grove, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a knife.

He is due to appear at Colchester Magistrates' Court on Monday.

The first officer was taken to hospital immediately after the attack but discharged later that day.

The second officer did not require hospital treatment.

Ch Supt Stuart Hooper said: "Thankfully both officers continue to recover from this harrowing incident on Friday evening.

"Their welfare remains paramount and they will be given support from the force for as long as they feel they need it."
