A man has denied murdering a woman at a property in Essex.

Sharon Butler, 64, was found with serious injuries in a garden on Whitehouse Meadows, Leigh-on-Sea, on 7 November and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kevin Shepherd, of Whitehouse Meadows, pleaded not guilty to one count of murder at Basildon Crown Court.

The 54-year-old was remanded in custody and told he would stand trial from 7 May.

In a statement, Ms Butler's family previously described her as a "loving daughter and sister" who would "never" be forgotten.
