Colchester residents will be able to keep their city tidy by taking part in the Great Winter Clean

People are being encouraged to take part in the so-called Great Winter Clean in Colchester.

The city council said it would loan litter picking equipment to anyone offering to help tidy up rubbish at local streets and parks.

About 100 bags of litter were removed last winter, a council spokesperson said.

The initiative was due to run between Monday and 15 February. The council shared further details on its website, external.

"Litter-picking is an easy and fun way to get active, improve your wellbeing, and take care of the environment," said Martin Goss, the Liberal Democrat portfolio holder for neighbourhoods and waste.
