A pair who left a man with a brain injury after a hit-and-run crash have been found guilty of attempted murder.

The victim was outside Billericay railway station, in Essex, when he was struck by a car early on 18 March 2023.

Joshua Littlechild, 25, from Bishop's Stortford, Herts, and Joshua Lloyd, 28, of Billericay, had been angered by an altercation with the victim earlier on.

The defendants were found guilty of attempted murder on Tuesday.

After the altercation, the victim and his group headed to get a taxi but it was there the white Ford Fiesta was driven at them "at pace" by Littlechild.

The victim was left with a critical brain injury and required multiple surgeries after he was struck by the car, police said.

He continued to suffer from "severe cognitive struggles" and found it hard to recognise his newborn baby, Basildon Crown Court heard.

During the investigation, officers located the car, stolen a week prior to the incident, a short distance from Lloyd's address.

Lloyd, who admitted aggravated taking without consent, was arrested at his home in Oak Green on the day of the crash.

Littlechild, of Delphian Way, was arrested three days later after being found with a suitcase and his passport near Newcastle.

He previously admitted assault causing grievous bodily harm and aggravated taking without consent.

Det Sgt Marc Farmer, of British Transport Police, described the defendants' actions as a "cowardly attack".

"This is a sad case whereby a minor scuffle has dramatically changed the lives of all involved," he said.

Mr Farmer added that it was an "extremely traumatic scene" for emergency workers to attend.

Littlechild and Lloyd would be sentenced in six weeks, police said.
