Police have seized more than £50,000 worth of drugs after discovering a cannabis farm.

Essex Police said the drugs were found during a raid at a property in Morecambe Close, Hornchurch, on Monday.

Officers found 122 cannabis plants and a further 5,834 cannabis saplings inside, the force said.

Two men were arrested on suspicion of producing a Class B drug, with one also arrested on suspicion of abstracting electricity.

The men have been released on conditional bail while inquiries continued.

The plants, which have been seized and assessed, were estimated to have a street value of more than £50,000.

"This was a large-scale cultivation with clear plans for continued use. Each of these plants have now been seized for assessment and destruction," Det Sgt Mike Monkton said.

"The growing of cannabis on a large scale is intrinsically linked to other criminal and gang activities."
