Harwich & Parkeston v Needham Market match abandoned after medical emergency

A football match between Harwich & Parkeston and Needham Market under 23s was abandoned due to a medical emergency in the crowd.

Paramedics were called to Harwich's Royal Oak Stadium just before 20:15 GMT on Tuesday.

In a statement, Harwich thanked both clubs' physiotherapists and other volunteers who helped.

An update from the club on social media said the man had been discharged from hospital.

An East of England Ambulance spokesman said: "One ambulance was sent to Harwich & Parkeston Football Club following reports of a man with a medical emergency.

"One man was transported to Colchester General Hospital for further assessment and care."

Later, in a post on X,, external Harwich & Parkeston said: "The spectator who collapsed at last night's match v Needham Market under 23s has been discharged from hospital this morning with a medical condition identified."
