Police blocked off the entrance to St John's car park in Colchester city centre

A body was found in a city centre car park with police treating the death as "unexpected".

Essex Police were called to St John's car park, in Colchester, shortly after 08:30 GMT on Wednesday.

Officers found a man, in his thirties, dead at the scene, the force said.

His family was being supported by specialist officers and the car park, which was closed following the discovery, was reopened during the afternoon.

"The man's death is currently being treated as unexpected and our investigation into his death is ongoing," a police spokesman said.

"We will continue to issue updates when we can and would urge against any speculation."
