Brentwood Doddinghurst Road crash sees man die eight days later

A man has died following a two-car collision near a leisure centre.

Essex Police attended Doddinghurst Road, near the Brentwood Leisure Centre, at 19:35 GMT on 2 February.

A man and a woman had been seriously injured and the man, in his thirties, died eight days later, the force said.

The driver of a BMW, a 36-year-old man from Romford, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

He was also taken to hospital but was later released under investigation after being treated.

The man who died and the injured woman had been passengers in the BMW when it collided with a Volkswagen Golf, police said.

"Specialist officers are supporting the family of the man who has died and our inquiries into the collision are ongoing," a police spokesman added.

He said anyone with information should contact the force.
