Two charged after Essex Police officers assaulted in Colchester

Essex Police says the officers were taken to hospital after they were assaulted in Colchester

A man and boy have been charged after two police officers were "assaulted".

Essex Police said the officers were attacked at about 22:30 GMT on Saturday while responding to reports of an incident involving three people in North Station Road, Colchester.

It was reported that two men were assaulting a third man.

A 37-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy have been charged with intentional non-fatal strangulation.

The force said it was reported that its two officers were "assaulted and strangled as two people attempted to flee the scene".

Both officers required hospital treatment, but have since been discharged.

The 37-year-old was also charged with assaulting an emergency worker, possession of a controlled Class A drug, affray and escaping from lawful custody.

The teenager has also been charged with affray and aiding escape from lawful custody.

Both defendants are due to appear in court next month.
