Police have arrested a man and appealed for CCTV and dashcam footage after the "unexpected" death of a man in his 40s.
Paramedics went to help the man on Marine Parade, Southend, at 23:55 GMT on Saturday, following concerns for his welfare. He died at the scene.
Essex Police said it was keeping an "open mind" on the cause of death and gave no further details of the arrest.
Det Ch Insp Ant Alcock asked for anyone in the area at the time who may have information to contact police.
"I understand that this may cause concern among the local community, but I want to reassure the public that we are working quickly to establish what happened in the period of time before the man's death," he added.
The arrested man remains in police custody.
