A hospital trust has announced its chief executive is to leave his role.

Lance McCarthy said he would be leaving the post at the Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust, in Harlow, Essex, in July.

The trust said Mr McCarthy was to join the Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust in Surrey when he departed from his position.

Mr McCarthy said it had been a "privilege" to have spent the past seven years working in Harlow.

The Princess Alexandra Hospital was rated as "requires improvement" during its most recent inspection, external by the Care Quality Commission in March 2023, having previously been in special measures.

"I know that the trust will continue on its improvement journey with the implementation of a state-of-the-art electronic health record this year," Mr McCarthy said.

The hospital trust said recruitment for a new chief executive was under way.

Trust chair Hattie Llewelyn added: "Thank you, Lance for your passion, compassion and commitment to our people and the patients we care for."
