A major road in Essex is set to be partially closed over the weekend so resurfacing work can continue.

The northbound A12 will be shut between junction 12 at Brentwood and junction 15 at the Webb's Farm interchange.

National Highways said works would take place between 21:00 GMT on Friday and 05:00 on Monday.

Project manager Anto Babu apologised for the "inconvenience" and said the closure was needed to enable workers to divert water safely.

"It is expected that the weekend closure will cause disruption along the A12 and on some local roads around Margaretting, so we encourage drivers to plan ahead and allow extra time when travelling," he added.

The work comes as part of a wider project, external to reconstruct the A12 Margaretting bypass.

The London-bound carriageway would remain open during the weekend's project, National Highways said.
